If Logan didn’t have bad luck, she’d have none at all. After witnessing a murder, she’s kidnapped—and then informed by a man named Cyrus that he intends to kill her so she can return as a vampire. Instead of panicking (okay, maybe panicking a little), Logan negotiates. She asks for one month. One month to get her affairs in order. One month to convince him not to go through with it.
I originally found this audiobook on YouTube, posted by the
author, and started listening purely because the cover caught my attention. The
narration is solid, and it’s easy to distinguish between characters as the
story unfolds.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. The
lore surrounding born vampires versus turned vampires was especially
compelling. In this world, turning someone is illegal—even though it’s
possible—but that doesn't apply to Logan. The
reincarnation element adds even more depth, and I’m genuinely invested in
seeing how that arc plays out in future installments.
Cyrus’ internal struggle toward the end was one of the
stronger emotional beats of the story. While the book does end on a
cliffhanger, it feels purposeful rather than abrupt. I immediately started Book
2 because I needed to know what happened next.
There is a betrayal in this story that I saw coming—but that
didn’t make it hurt any less.
Also, fun fact: when I went to Amazon to check the price for this post, I realized I’ve owned this book since April 23, 2020. Apparently, I impulse-buy pretty vampire books faster than I could ever read them.
