Dani Talbert is ready to leave town for good. There’s too much history here—too many wounds—and while she’ll miss her friends, she’s determined to build a better life for herself and her son. Then Ryder Nathanson comes back. The same Ryder everyone loved to hate in earlier books.
He convinces Dani to marry him and secures her the lead role in Rabourn’s newest play—but nothing involving Ryder is ever simple. The question isn’t whether there’s chemistry. It’s what it will cost her this time.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is Book 4 in the series. While it technically can be read as a standalone, I wouldn’t recommend it. There are multiple callbacks and references to previous books that carry emotional weight only if you’ve followed the series from the beginning.
This is a true enemies-to-lovers arc that takes its time. Ryder was not a fan favorite in Books 1–3, so watching his redemption unfold was surprisingly satisfying. His character development here is some of the strongest in the series so far.
The story does not end on a cliffhanger, though the overarching “Big Bad” conflict continues across the series. Despite that ongoing tension, it never feels repetitive or overdone. Each installment deepens the world and relationships rather than dragging the same plot thread.
Overall, this was one of my favorite character arcs in the series, and I absolutely recommend reading the books in order to fully appreciate Ryder and Dani’s journey.
