Book Review: By the Light of the Moon: Rise of the Arkansas Werewolves by Jodi Vaughn

By the Light of the Moon: Rise of the Arkansas Werewolves, Volume 1     Damon has found his purpose in life: to serve the pack. He is a guardian and his goal is to keep the pack-members safe. So when he is pulled from one assignment to rescue a kidnapped wolf, he does not hesitate. When rescuing the General's daughter, Ava, he learns that the Red Wolves are behind the kidnapping and had intended to force her into heat and turning her into a brood mare. To make matters worse every protective instinct within him is rearing at the sight of her and he isn't allowed to have her.

Ava is very thankful to have been rescued, but it seems that she can't go home just yet as her home and the compound have been bombed. Instead she must stay with the surprisingly alluring guardian who is telling her that not only is he a werewolf, but so is she. At least the crazy comes in a pretty package.

Sometimes it seems that when you know something is off limits it only makes you want it more. That being said, when the punishment for having her could be death just how far would you be willing to go? I suppose it all depends on the person in question.

This is book one in a series and doesn't leave things unanswered. Instead there is resolution with the ability to branch into other areas with it. Which is amazing and the only way a series should be done in my opinion. I don't really have any complaints about this book. I have the Kindle edition of this book, which I am guessing they no longer have as when I look for the book it shows Audible, paperback, and mass paperback.

Book Review: New Beginnings (Others of Edenton Book .5) by Brandy L. Rivers

New Beginnings (Others of Edenton) by [Brandy L Rivers]    Jess made one drunken mistake with her alpha and now she has to get out of town. The man had been trying to get her to sleep with him for years, but now that she had while drunk he was going to become unbearable. Thankfully there is a bar for sale with another pack and they are willing to take her in. Thank god for small favors. Except there is something about this new alpha that has her wolf sitting up and taking notice. Could she really be thinking of jumping from Gregory to Slater?

Physics, wolves, empaths, elementals, and fae all in one town equals a whole lot of fun for this group. This is a book that has a sassy chick who doesn't back down from anyone and a man that isn't a complete caveman. Well, some of the men in the book are cavemen, but if they weren't then the book wouldn't have had any realistic points.

Honestly, I don't have any complaints about this book. It was a fast read, although that is likely more from how much I enjoyed it versus the actual length of the book. All sections were resolved and we have a clear understanding of where the next book will pick up and who the characters in it will be. The best way, in my opinion, for a series to be. Finish one thought before moving on to the next and don't break one book into multiple.

Book Review: We Don't Die by Cedrick Wilson

We Don't Die by [Cedrick E. Wilson]     Scott has always been an amazing cop, rushing head on into danger. That is until not calling for backup resulted in a known hit-man killing his partner. After that everything became about revenge and all else in his life went to hell. In fact it doesn't seem like it can get any worse until they get a break. McNeil is found dead, but things just get worse when Scott finds himself dead shortly after.

Turns out McNeil escaped from hell, but can Scott get back on track to being the cop he once was by bringing him to justice from beyond the grave or is it too late for him?

This book was suggested to me by the author at the beginning of the year and shortly after I purchased it. The cover of the book intrigued me and I was excited to get started on it, but it took me a while to get started as I had some medical issues going on. When I started the book it was like a lot of indie books, in that it could do with some editing and some sentences simply didn't make sense. Having read a lot of indie books that no longer bothers me for long, though so I continued on with the book.

My main issue with this book is that it reads like a police report. The story is there and it is interesting if you can get past how it is written. It is just dry and even the commentary within it is like a script. There is also the issue of one of the characters. The author outlines how she died and then changes it later on as if he forgot how he killed her. I am not saying it is a bad book, just inconsistent and in need of editing. Preferably in the writing style.

Book Review: Soulkeepers by G. P. Ching (Soulkeepers Book 1)

The Soulkeepers (The Soulkeepers Series Book 1) by [G. P. Ching]    When Jacob wakes in the hospital to find his mom is missing and that he has to go to some town called Paris with a man he has never met he thought things couldn't get any worse. That is until he actually gets to the little town and discovers everyone there seems to hate him other than his uncle other than a girl named Milani. This even results in a fight between he and a local bully that ends in him controlling water.

When you lose one of your parents you may think that there is no God. With the loss of both you either turn to him completely or turn your back. The difference is up to the individual. For Jacob it was a complete lack of belief in higher powers. Even when he discovers he has powers he knows there must be some logical explanation other than what he was told by Dr. Silva. That being said, what would you do to get your mom back and protect those you care about?

I started this book a long time ago, got about halfway through it and stopped for some reason until this past week. I ended up having to start at the beginning again because of how long it had been, but it isn't a painful read. In fact it is an interesting YA book, that while minorly religious is more about good vs evil than the Christian god or any other religion. It reminds me a little bit of Percy Jackson if he was fighting fallen angels other than gods and the children of gods.

This is not one of those books that leaves in the middle of the story. There is resolutions to problems brought up with the ability to expand into other issues in the future. Which is how a book and series should be, in my opinion. This book is available on Amazon for free by clicking here.

Book Review: Hungry Moon Quicksilver by Claudy Conn

Hungry Moon-Quicksilver by [Claudy Conn, Karen Babcock]     When Ravena is cheated on by her boyfriend with her best friend she decides to head to the highlands to spend some time with her father. Only when she gets there she learns that he will be leaving for a few weeks to get married. Instead finds herself helping Arthur, who she considers like a grandfather, free a werewolf from a portal where he is trapped. The connection between herself and Quinn is undeniable, but can she trust him to be different from her last boyfriend?

Quinn has been trapped in Delmar, a previous fae vacation spot, through a portal by the grandson of someone he killed years ago. The black magic can only be broken by one person and it now appears that she has been found. Not only has she been found but her wolf calls to his. There is nothing he can do to protect her when she is outside the portal until the curse is broken, though.

Magic, shifters, fae, and immortals. Oh my. This book has it all and a combination. For once out of the books I have been reading recently there is a nice background story going on, but the actual story is resolved during it's pages. There is nothing unresolved between the two of them and that part of the story is nicely wrapped up. Definitely a nice change from a lot of series books that you read anymore. This romance is fun to read and will leave you looking forward to the next page and what happens next.

Book Review: The Ghost and the Graveyard by Genevieve Jack (Knight Games Book 1)

The Ghost and the Graveyard by Genevieve Jack - New - 1940675065 by Carpe Luna, Ltd. | Thriftbooks.com  When Grateful is taken advantage of by her boyfriend, Gary, she looses everything and is forced to ask her dad for a place to stay. He lets her stay in the house he was given that they had lived in when she was a baby. The house seems perfect, until she realizes instead of a backyard she has a graveyard. But, the new house isn't all bad. After all, the caretaker is every type of sexy and there is even a friendly ghost in her house that knows how to make coffee. Too bad they are trying to make her decide not only between them, but also if she should accept her destiny to become a witch.

I started this book with every reservation about Rick and believing him to be the bad guy while leaning more towards Logan the ghost. Now that I have finished the book I don't know who I prefer. The kindred spirit talk at the beginning was coming on a little strong for my taste, but now that I know the story behind why I get it. Logan is a conundrum, but I think he means well. Although, personally after knowing everything I think I'd go with the Spaniard.

The book itself isn't bad, but I can't say that I am not a bit tired of there being a lack of closure in books that I have been choosing recently. Unless you are okay with committing to a series, which I am not currently, or unanswered questions steer clear.
