Book Review: Turnstiles by Andrea McKenzie Raine

Amazon.com: Turnstiles eBook: Raine, Andrea McKenzie: Kindle Store     After Willis' father died, leaving him with his fortune in place of the love and affection he had never harbored for him he decided to rid himself of it. So, he gave the entire amount to some random homeless man on the street and walked away. This man was Marty, who had left his home in Canada, with his Aunt where he had never felt he belonged. Marty took that money, got cleaned up and left London for Paris, where he met Evelyn, a prostitute. Sometimes everything happens for a reason, but can these chance interactions somehow mean so much more?
This book took me a while to get through and until the very end I had no idea how it tied together or how they even mattered. This book is different than what I normally read and I don't know that I would have chosen it. Honestly, I am still not sure what the point in this book was. They are just lost floating souls trying to make sense of their lives. But, I am sure some people seek out and read books like this, it was just different for me.

Book Review: The Reunion by K. M. Ryan

Amazon.com: The Reunion (What If Book 1) eBook: Ryan, K. M. ...     Abi has sworn off relationships and is being conned into going to her 10 year high school reunion by her boss with the promise that if she isn't enjoying herself after 30 minutes she can leave and he will never ask her for anything ever again. Pretty steep promise considering he is also her best friend. When she gets there the last thing she expects is for the guy she was in love with (from a distance) in High School not only to be there, but to talk to her. Can those feelings still be there after 10 years?
Logan always had a crush on Abigail, but never got up the courage to ask her out until it was too late. When he sees her at the reunion get drunk he takes it upon himself to take her home. Can just one night be enough, though?
Sexy, overworked male vs beautiful shy closet-artist. These two are too adorable for their own good. I can understand Abi's hesitations as well as her insecurities, as I am a very insecure person. At the same time I get Logan's point as well. He doesn't want to bog her down with the inner turmoil he is going through. I got this book on Kindle Unlimited at the author's suggestion and I loved it so much I finished it in two days.
I am dating my high school sweetheart. We were together for a while in High School and broke up due to it becoming long distance then didn't speak for 5 years. During that time we both had other relationships, but they didn't work out. Including a failed marriage on my part. Then, last year I texted him out of the blue and we picked up where we left off. Now we live together, are expecting our first child together (even though he claims my son), and are planning a life together. I tell you that because while reading this I sent him a text while he was at work telling him about the book and that it made me think about a certain guy that I had a huge crush on in High School that I am so glad I was able to get another chance with afterwards. He of course called me a sappy dork. He will live.
All in all this book is adorable, sweet, cute, and leaves you wishing for an epilogue. I need to know how things worked out between these two. Where they ended up, if they ended up. I need it. I hope when the author makes another book in this series it tells us something about these two. Otherwise I may go a bit crazy. Now, as much as I loved these characters I can't say that I loved them both throughout the book. I was just as mad at Logan as she was, even if I had a bit more of an idea than she did as to why a certain thing happened. Not going to give anything away, though.

Book Review: Highland Dragon Warrior by Isabel Cooper (Dawn of the Highland Dragon Book 1)

Highland Dragon Warrior (Dawn of the Highland Dragon Book 1 ...     Sophia travels to Loch Arach in search of a dragon scale, which she believes will further her alchemist pursuits to make the world a better place. When she arrives she enters into a deal with the lord of the castle that in exchange for giving her dragon scales she will try her best to fix his friend. This friend seems like he is dead in every respect other than he is breathing and is still warm to the touch after having dealt with a sorcerer who wanted to use Cathal's shifting abilities for his own uses. When she agrees she is taken on an adventure that she never could have imagined where she falls for the laird himself. Just maybe she is what he was needing as well.
Highlander books are always my favorite historical fiction books. Castles, big men, Scotland, and this one even has shifters. I hadn't read one quite like this before and I can't say that I was disappointed.  Sophia was quirky, but able to view things differently than most everyone around her, which in the end was a huge help. Cathal is hard to understand at first in the book, but as it progresses he is just wanting to do what is best for his clan while he is in charge. The sorcerer, demons, and world she was taken to was unexpected and I am still not entirely sure how she was able to edit the world herself.
This is a slow build-up kind of romance with only one sex scene in the entire book. The main focus of this book seems to be on Sophia, even though it jumps back and forth from the perspectives of both characters. All in all it is a sweet romance that is mostly just historical fiction. If you like dragons, alchemists, sorcerers, and curses you should give this book a try. Book Review: The Package by Bryan Quinn

Amazon.com: THE PACKAGE: An International Thriller of Conspiracy ...     After an earthquake exposes an ancient tomb under a catholic church to the resident priest, Marco. Father Marco decides to share this knowledge with a woman archaeologist, whom he has had a crush on for a long time in order to date the body as well as the scroll that is found as it could change the world forever. Meanwhile, in the states Father Marco isn't the only one potentially changing Catholicism as we know it. In fact, there is a professor there that has written a book stating that he believes Paul was a false prophet and rather than the Holy Trinity there is in fact only God in his Oneness. What could these things mean for the church as well as for humanity as we know it?
Okay, so I read the synopsis on this book before reading it as well as a few times throughout reading this and I will tell you why. Anyone who has been reading my reviews or reads my blog knows I don't do religion and more so than that I will not under any circumstances read politics. If it was just the religion in this book I would have been fine with it. I was raised in a religious household and my grandfather is a pastor. It happens. I just choose to not read those kinds of books (other than The Celestine Prophecy-which I will never not recommend) because it is not something that interests me.
When I started reading this book I even started to compare it to Celestine Prophecy and was enjoying it. Cut to the Professor. There is some deep disdain in me for any sections of this book that include this man. It is nothing but nonstop politics. It was painful to read and I hated every second of it. Just so you know no where in the synopsis does it say anything about politics or I would never have spent $10 on this book. Not even half of that, to be honest.
I won't say I hated the entire book. I didn't. It was an interesting concept, and as my grandfather only goes based on the Old Testament anyways, it wasn't something that was completely foreign to me. The thing that ruined this book for me wasn't the religion. That being said, before you start this book, if you so choose, please realize what you are getting into. Maybe it will be less torturous for you.

Book Review: Nefertiti's Heart by A. W. Exley (The Artifact Hunters Book 1)

Amazon.com: Nefertiti's Heart (The Artifact Hunters Book 1) eBook ...     Cara has abused by her father then given away to a man who raped her in order to pay his debts so he would not have to part with his precious artifacts. Those artifacts that have now come back into her life with the murder of her father. Her plan is to sell them off, one by one, with the help of the nefarious pirate lord, Nathaniel Lyons. When women around Cara's age start getting murdered the Enforcer's begin looking to her for answers.
Even after reading this book I am not sure of the time period. Not that I am complaining. I loved the mixture of steam-punk with old time England. Airships and steam powered horse-drawn carriages would be interesting to see. Also I am always one for a redhead and a pirate. Not that I knew that going in, but I always love being pleasantly surprised. She is a strong one, I will give her that. I don't know that I could have done what she did, given those circumstances.
I was amused to know that I knew who the killer was from the moment he was introduced, but I will not spoil it for you. After all, it is most satisfying. I will be adding book two to my list but I have no idea when I will be getting to it. Especially in light of recent events.

Book Review: Dark Voyage by Helen Susan Swift (Tales from the Dark Past Book 1)

Dark Voyage: Horror And Mystery On The Arctic Seas (Tales From The ...     When a ship is discovered in a glacier that found it's way into Dundee's port it is immediately a temporary safe-haven for the two young people who had been fishing and were caught during a storm. As there was a thick fog they decided to investigate the ship and found a log that told us what happened to that ship almost 90 years prior. Witches, superstition, curses, and sailing are never things that should be crossed, but how much of it is the fiction of a delirious mind and how much of it was actually supernatural?
You just have to love a good ghost ship that is willing to tell her tales. Lady Belady was one such vessel who offered her story to anyone willing to read the good doctor's words. There is everything you could desire in a ghost ship and more. You feel familiar with the locations, such as Gass Skerry, even if you have never heard of them before and are just as keen as the surgeon to know what happened there. The author will have you bouncing between believing it is all superstitious prattle of the pre World War 2 sailors and fact that these men had to contend with.
If you like a good ghost story and betrayal is your forte then please pick up this book. It is one I will recommend and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have. Even the bit of mystery left just for the reader at the end! This book is available on Amazon for $2.99 or with Kindle Unlimited at https://amzn.to/3gO6Mpm.
