Book Review: Set Free by Anthony Bidulka

Amazon.com: Set Free (9780995229211): Anthony Bidulka: Books     Jasper was an award winning author and had everything a man could ask for. He had a beautiful wife whom he loved, he had an amazing daughter, and he was able to stay at home to focus on his writing career. What more could a man want? That is until one night when he and his wife were out late and his daughter didn't come home. She had been kidnapped.
As if that was not bad enough months later he went on a trip to Africa in order to clear his mind and do his best to get back some semblance of normal after all they had gone through. Once again his life took a turn when he was captured and sent through hell. The question is, could he come out of this alive as well?
First off I want to start by saying that I both love and hate this author now. Not for any bad reasons of course. When I actually began to focus on this book, which I hate to admit was today, I found I couldn't put it down. I was just under halfway through it when I truly began to read it today (at 6 PM) and now (at 11:30 PM) the book is finished.
Now for the reasons I hate him. He managed to draw me into the story so thoroughly that when something in my perspective changed I felt as betrayed as the characters in the book. I felt pushed through every emotion and I never suspected the truth. Now that it is finished it seems so obvious. But he hid his intentions for this book so well. I will not give anything away, but the fact that he knows what he did at the end to the point he writes out the questions without answering them makes me want to scream in frustration.
Now that I have ranted my fill on what has displeased me let's focus on the positives, shall we? This book has everything that one could need. It is raw and real. It is something that could easily happen to someone and the emotion leaks out of every page. You don't find yourself getting bored part of the way through because you know what is happening. Instead you are so totally absorbed in the book that even after having only read it for a few minutes reality begins to fade and you have only this book. Only know what is going on in front of you. The words blurring from written descriptions to a movie that is playing in your head.
Now. Since I have said that I will say something else. Everyone needs to read this book. While they need to read this book I truly hope that it is never made into a movie or any kind of screenplay. I mean that in the best way possible. The only thing a movie or screenplay of this would do is tarnish what it is. There is no way that a movie would be able to so thoroughly drag you in and not let you up. I hope you understand.

Book Review: Miss Fix It By Emma Hart

Miss Fix-It - Kindle edition by Hart, Emma. Contemporary Romance ...     Kali had standards. She was a handy-woman who would be damned if she would let peoples conceptions of how things should go impact her. So when she showed up at the new guy in towns house and he was skeptical about her being the builder for her company she was going to write him off. Except he was checking her boxes. Sexy? Check. Looked like he was hung? Check. That is until she seen that he was filling a box that was firmly in her no land. A few of them actually. He was a client and he had kids. So no matter how hot this Brantley was he was strictly off limits. The question is, how long can she hold off?
Alright, so to start there is a lot of sex in this book. And by a lot I mean once they started they were like rabbits. Not that I have much room to talk, but still. They didn't really do anything other than have sex and he "fucked her into loving him." Yup, not kidding. The kid were adorable and I can picture my own two year old being very similar to the 4 year olds that were depicted here. The author obviously has kids. She has also obviously been on some really bad dates. The guys that she described in her online dating horror stories are actually pretty common, or at least they were last year when I was single. Not something I hope to relive again.
The single dad thing was cute and I was kinda into the builder woman thing. All in all the concept was great, but I feel like the book itself was a bit of a let down. That is not to say that I don't think that you should read it. It is definitely worth a read, just maybe not if you are looking for an actual romance.

Book Review: Red Moon (Red Moon Second Generation Series Book 1) by Elizabeth Kelly

Red Moon (Red Moon, #1) by Elizabeth Kelly     Avery was sold along with her sister into the life of slavery by her mother after her noble father died. She was a Red, meaning someone with red hair, and had the ability to heal others through touch at some expense of her own. The thing is none of that mattered to her. Not even that everyone considered her to be a witch because she was a Red. She just wanted what was best for her younger sister and she would do whatever it took for her to have a good life. When Tristan came with his daughter to purchase slaves she knew she had to get her sister to go with him.
Tristan needed to add some slaves to his home in order to better provide for his daughter, whom he had only recently gotten back from her mother, his ex-wife. When he seen the Red he was leery due to the superstitions around them, but as his daughter was taken with her he could not refuse. Soon, however, he quickly realized he needed her by his side and in his bed.
When one falls from a high status to one as low as a slave it is bound to be humiliating as well as a very difficult transition. That being said Avery lives the life she has been dealt with a sort of calm that I have never known in a redhead. That is not to say that she rolls over and accepts whatever people try to throw her way, she just does not start by lashing out and uses it instead as only a last resort.
I enjoyed the concept of a redhead being a witch, which used to be a common belief among humans hundreds of years ago. Not only that but I will forever love a good shifter romance. Besides, we all know how I feel about a redheaded heroine. There's something about a redhead.
That being said I can't rate this as one of my top favorites and I don't think I will be looking for book two any time soon, if at all. While I was caught up in the story while I was reading it I had no problem pulling myself back to reality without that dazed and confused period that readers frequently experience with a very good book. All in all read it if you would like a smutty period romance, but if you're looking for something to draw you in and leave you wanting more then this is not the book for you.

Book Review: Dark Path by Melissa F. Miller (Bodhi King Novel Book 1)

Image result for Dark Path by Melissa F. Miller     Bohdi is a retired forensic pathologist who has decided to live the reminder of his days away from the public eye after becoming a near-instant celebrity after solving a SUD cluster while unearthing a political scandal. That being said when the healthy elderly start dropping like flies at a retirement home he is asked to step in and see if he can help. He agrees, but only as long as the church isn't paying for him.
There is a mix of a lot of religions in this book including Catholicism, Buddhism, and Santerianism. I was hesitant on this book at first due to all of the religions, but I can honestly say that it played out nicely. I was skeptical of the cause of all of the deaths from the beginning and in a way I am glad I was right. Some things are just meant not to be liked.
Within these pages lay a story that has mystery, drama, religion, and even a bit of flirting. As with any book I have a favorite character. For once it was not one of the main characters. Instead it was Mr. Santiago. The older gentleman had a love of reading and a fear of dying. But, of course, who could blame him when all of his friends were dying around him at night with a look of abject horror on their faces?
If you can keep an open mind about religions and love a good mystery to curl up with then you should get this book. Who knows, you might even learn some things. I learned about the possibility of dying due to consuming too much copper. Makes me want to rethink some of my copper pans in my kitchen.

Book Review: My Commander by Alanea Alder (Bewitched and Bewildered Book 1)

Image result for my commander alanea alder     Meryn is a crazy, geeky ball of sass that has been drawn to come to this odd little town and scale a fence. Now she has been captured by some hunky caveman type claiming that she is his mate. After determining that a spell to locate the warriors mates has been made maybe this won't be so bad after all.
Aiden does not want or have time for a mate. He has men to run. Besides if the woman he has been dreaming of is any indication she will be more than a handful and will always be getting in trouble. The problem is is that fate did not warn him enough in his dreams to prepare him for the sassy little spitfire that is his "Menace".
With shifter couples disappearing constantly with seemingly no tie is there even any time for romance? Especially when the small human is constantly causing trouble and there is a ball to attend and squires to interview? Only one way to find out.
Previously I have thought that the main female character was my favorite and that I would not be able to love another more. But, let's face it, I was wrong. Meryn is my new favorite person and I am very sure that my boyfriend is glad that I have finished this book if only so I will finally shut up about it. He has heard little else other than things that I am loving about this book for the last several things.
In my defense he was laughing about them most of the time. My favorite thing in this entire book is not how violent that the female is. Or how geeky, although the weeping angels thing was the most amazing thing in the history of ever. No, my favorite was the chapter about tampons. I will not spoil it for you, but I was dying for the entire chapter. That chapter alone would have made the book worth reading if I liked nothing else in it.
That being said I loved the book and really want to read book two. There was a small prelude to the second book at the end of this one which I made the mistake of reading as well and of course it made me want it. Yes, I want to know what kind of female can handle that vampire, but more than that I want to know about the missing Lykonians!
All in all if you are a geek, are a fan of cheeky women and controlling men (all of which I very much so am, ask my controlling -in a completely sexy way- man) then you have to read this book. It was the first shifter book I have read in a little while which is surprising based on how much I have always enjoyed them. None the less this is a series that you need to read. For now, Allons-y!

Book Review: Deal with the Devil by Evangeline Anderson

Image result for deal with the devil by evangeline anderson     Luz is a shape-shifter, of sorts, who is plagued by crippling anxiety when it comes to taking tests due to something bad in her past that she juts can't get over no matter how hard she tries. This is to the point where she has never been able to shift into her wolf form in her life, if she even has one, or pass the bar exam. So when a vampire offers her his blood, which he says will calm her, in exchange for her own she is tempted into making a deal with the devil.
Jude is a vampire outcast who is known for his ruthlessness even among his own kind. Yet when he meets the beautifully curvy Luz he knows the little Latino wolf must be his. So he strikes a deal with her. Maybe together they can work out their pasts and make a brighter future.
I will not give away details, but Jude is simply astonishing. Yes, as a male, but here my credit must go to the author because I have not come across this cross and it adds to his "disability". I can honestly say this is an original spin on a vampire-shifter romance and one I was pleased to read. Dante is an amazing character and there is no one in this book that I did either not love or love to hate. The author is able to draw you into her story and everyone feels like they could be a real person, you may even find a relative of yours among them
All in all this is a book that I would suggest hands down. So get comfy and get some snacks before you grab this book because once you start you won't want to stop until you're finished.

Book Review: Ride: Awakening (Púca Mates) Episode 1 by A.C. James

Image result for Ride: Awakening (Puca Mates) Episode 1 by A.C. James     Felicity is a journalist for an online blog called Everyday Supernatural. She is being sent on a journey to a remote island in Ireland where a local lore called the Púca have been spotted apparently wreaking a small amount of havoc on a construction site. She had just broken up with her long time boyfriend because of him constantly telling her of her shortcomings and this could be just the distraction she needs. That is until she meats Niall.
Niall is a Púca who has crossed the recently lifted veil into the mortal realm in order to determine why the veil has lifted before Fall as well as to locate a mate, at his father's demand. He does not want a mate and his stallion agrees on this. His priority is to his family. That is until he meets the little reporter who is so interested in his species.
Can Felicity let go of her recent heartbreak to allow someone close to her? Does Niall want to be that person?
This is one of those books that is one story broken into multiple books. As always I am not a fan of these books simply because I like instant gratification. I want to know what happens in the story rather than having to go and buy the next part. If the book was all together then I would say that I love it so far.
I have only read part one and my TBR is so long that it may be a while before I am able to read any more parts to the book. That being said the cliffhanger at the end is enough to make me want to have part two and do plan to add it to the end of my TBR. If you go through and purchase all of the books at once I am sure this is a story that is worth it. I am loving the accents and "getting pissed" is officially my new favorite way of saying getting drunk. Besides, who doesn't like Irish boys.
