Book Review: The Tattler: Losing Time by Chad Descoteaux (The Tattler Book 2)

The Tattler: Losing Time by [Chad Descoteaux]     It has been 4 years since the race of aliens from the planet Kardash has taken over the planet. Since then Agent Cromwell has been the President of the United States. Now the aliens are allowing the human race to run in a presidency. The one to run is none other than Lee Fin. The fate of the world rests on who is elected and whose message is received. Everything seems to be going well until a time-traveler from 600 years in the future comes back to try to right the wrong that has been done at this point in history. Can Elaina save the person she came back to save or will her boss, Rupart, achieve his own agenda?

Time is a fluid thing. Constantly changing based on the actions that we take and the choices that we make. So when, in the future, time travel becomes possible someone could go back to any point and make changes that causes life in their current time to change as a result. We all have regrets and would want to go back to a certain time and change something that had happened. For this reason there are the Time Cops. Police that are able to see when an event has been altered and resolve it. Yet, as with any institution corruption is always possible. This was the case with Rupart, who wanted to go back in time and ensure that the results of the election led to the residents of Kardash to remain on the planet.

If you could go back and change something would you? I have many regrets, but out of those regrets I have my son. A son that I wouldn't trade for anything. When I think about my life I know that if anything in it was different that I may not be who I am today and I am fine with the person that I am. That being said, I can see how it could be used for good. But, this book is about much more than the controversies surrounding time travel. There is action, awful aliens, and a crime lord. Even a dash of romance and heart-break. Truly something for everyone. I actually believe I enjoyed this book more than I enjoyed book one, both of which I received from the author in the form of an audible redemption code in exchange for an honest review.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the same thing that irked me in book one. The narrator's inability to correctly pronounce the word picture. I promise there is a c in that word. But, since it is not the author's fault I will not take away any stars on the review because of it.

Book Review: Ark of the Apocalypse by Tobin Marks

Ark of the Apocalypse (The Magellan II Chronicles Book 1) by [Tobin Marks]     Life on Earth is vastly different than what it once was. The world's temperature has risen along with the oceans. Life in the bays has diminished to almost nothing and man-kind's existence isn't far behind as there is almost no fresh water left. This rapidly dying planet's life span is about to get much shorter as Mother Olga has influenced the world powers (without their knowledge) and ignited a war. While Earth will perish she has a plan. Her great niece will travel with her husband and a few thousand people to a planet far away that has the ability to sustain life and continue humanity.

This new planet will have many struggles, such as surviving in an alien world that is dominated by giant dinosaur-like reptiles. Can this new world survive before humans and their self-destructive natures are gone forever?

I was given this eBook by the author in exchange for an honest review. While I am not normally someone who likes politics this book was done in a way that you don't feel like you are dealing with a political situation. The presidents of the United States in this story certainly don't know how to be diplomatic. But, because it doesn't feel political it was something that I enjoyed. For once, when someone set out to destroy the Earth they actually succeeded. There is also a precognitive and a dragon.

The thing that I don't understand is if she seen the future and what actions caused what reactions why she didn't try to deviate from an action and in doing so try to save people. But, I suppose blindly following what she refers to as the Path was what her family had done for generations. I also don't understand why her parents weren't with the others in the Order. Either I missed what their purpose was or it was as simple as meeting someone at the end. Which doesn't make any sense to me.

I think my favorite part of this book is the dragon. I have always had a small obsession with dragons and the fact that this one was able to communicate makes it all the better. All in all this book is worth all of the time spent on it and I cannot wait to find out what happens next! This book is available on Amazon for $7.99 by clicking here.

Book Review: The Best Friend Contract by Athirah Roslan (Athrhteera)

The Best Friend's Contract     Aiden has it all. He is smart, funny, good-looking, and the billionaire CEO of the family company and he has no intention of settling down. At least not for a few more years and until he finds the right girl. Until then he is content to be a playboy. That is until his mother gives him an ultimatum. Get married to someone of his choosing or she would choose him a bride. Say no and she would remove him as CEO. So, Aiden decides to set up a one year marriage contract with his life-long friend, Kenna. After-all, they have been best friends for 20 years. What is one year of marriage to help one out?

Everything is going great until feelings start to develop. Only are the only felt by one? Could this ruin their friendship forever?

I said I wasn't going to read any more books from the Dreame app after the last one, but it honestly wasn't that bad. The editing is horrid. In all honesty this book was harder to read than the last because there were so many editing issues, but the stories on the site seem to be good. I auto-unlocked the entire book so I am not sure how much I paid for it. Probably around $5. It is a cute read where two people who have known each other since they were 6 years old start to look at each other in a new light, but as I mentioned the editing is horrid.

There are placed where words such as what I can only assume were "focused" was instead listed as "f****d" and cursing would not be appropriate in that part of the sentence. They do the same with bra. Other times I don't even know what the intended word was because of the asterisks. Just be prepared for that if you do decide to read it. I am not saying the book was bad. I would say about a 3 star, because if you can get past the awful writing to the story behind it it is both cute and emotional.

I was able to find this book on a few websites if you would like to read it. I don't know how the verbiage is on the other sites as I read it on Dreame, but I will list them here along with links.
Inkitt- Just by clicking through on this page of the site it appears to be a free read here and the errors still appear present.

WattPad-From what I know of WattPad I believe this is a free read as well. Seems the same wording is used in all the sites. Except I didn't see any asterisks on this one, so that might be a good thing.

WebNovel-By clicking through the book appears to be free on this site as well. Same wording. No asterisks seen.

GoodReads- Of course you cannot read the book here, but I wanted to include it. Just so you know the Amazon link on the GoodReads page does not take you to the book on Amazon. From what I found the book is not available on Amazon.

SoFanNovel- Chapters 1-8 are available free afterwards there is a $4.99 monthly membership. It does appear that if you have the membership you have unlimited access to all of their stories.

MoboReader-Prologue is free. I was not willing to download the app to determine if the rest of the book was free or what the cost was if it was not.

Pinterest- Link for a free download is available here. I did not click on it to see for the editing issues.

Dreame-Probably $4.99. They unlock with credits so it is hard to tell sometimes.

Book Review: Under a VooDoo Moon by A. B. Robinette (Darkin World Book 2)

Under A Voodoo Moon: Darkin World Novel (Book 2) by [A.B. Robinette]    Remi has just gotten out of an unhealthy relationship with a manipulative egotistical narcist who decided the best way to get back at her was to ruin all of her gig options in Paris. That is until she gets a chance to DJ at a nightclub on New Years Eve. There she meets Gideon and her whole life changes, including becoming reacquainted with a black faced wolf that her great grandmother told her to trust. Everything is going great until her ex, Trystan, shows back up and everything starts crashing down.

I bought this book back in March at the suggestion of someone on Twitter and at the time did not realize it was part of a series. I was assured by the author that it can be read without first reading book one and they lived up to that promise. While there were little things that I felt I missed, mostly dealing with a curse, I don't feel I missed any key plot points that were needed to enjoy the story as a whole.

This book takes place in Paris and further as we follow our main characters in a post WW3 world. Everything seems different, even though it is only 50 short years since the great war ended. Cities are trying to rebuild, but they are no longer as sprawling as they once were. We get to meet who I assume were the characters from book one along with their father. There is also ancient voodoo spirits who are fighting an age-old battle.

Having previously been married to an awful narcist I can understand what Remi went through and what the Loa was trying to avoid. It isn't a great situation and men like that not getting what they want should be the goal for everyone. It is definitely the goal for these two, although if they achieve it I will leave up to you to discover in these pages. I don't have anything to complain about with this book and hope that you give it a chance.

Book Review: Forever by Eve Newton

Liv was turned into a vampire by her love, Constantine, over a thousand years ago. While he is still her sire he wanted her to take on other lovers, just as he did, and it was not something she agreed with at the time. So, for the last 500 years she has had her darling boy, Devon, by her side. They are friends and lovers, but when Liv meets Cole she considers bringing him into her world as well. Could this little human be at home with vampires and their promiscuous ways?

This is one of those books that I began without reading the synopsis. I got it back in 2016 and it has just been sitting in my Kindle library. The version I got at that time did not state this was a reverse Harem book as the one now states. As I slowly work my way through all of the ebooks that I got back then I don't always know what I am getting myself into and sometimes it isn't a great time. This would be one of those times. At one point I abandoned this book for a couple of days before deciding I just wanted it off my unread books list.

Liv is a hypocrite. I won't go into a lot of details on that as I don't want to give it away for those that do want to read this, but if you hate someone for doing something then you turn around and do that same thing there is a problem. I feel bad for Devon. He has spent 500 years with this woman who he obviously has love for only for her to become enamored by some human.

If you were to take out the sleeping with multiple people while omitting the truth then it would actually be a decent book. That being said there isn't much of the book that doesn't involve this, so enjoy if that is your thing. The one I got at the time of just book one is no longer available, but you can get books one and two for $0.99 on Amazon by clicking here

Book Review: The Tattler by Chad Miles Descoteaux

When Barry was a young boy he was abducted by aliens...too bad he doesn't remember it. If he did then he may have had some insight into what is going on now. Instead when the young photographer happens upon a charred corpse in the same field he was discovered in as a child after his abduction he is at a loss. After-all The Tattler magazine only prints fake, outlandish, stories. This one of theirs couldn't possibly be real.

I was given this book as an audiobook by the author in exchange for an honest review. I will start by saying the book itself is fun, interesting, and unique. I don't have a lot of negative to say about it, in all honesty. I don't like the narrator. Not that he did anything innately wrong, he just didn't pronounce the "c" in the word picture. It made me cringe every time and as the main character is a photographer it happened a lot. I wouldn't let this deter you from reading the book, or in this case listen to it, however. Barry and Nikki are characters that will cause you to go through a wide array of emotions with them.

Such as, at one point due to Barry's actions (which I shall not mention) towards Nikki I was disgusted by him. But, one instance makes neither man nor character and as long as you learn from your mistakes, as the saying goes. Now then. There are aliens in this story. I can safely say this as they are on the cover of the book. The name of these aliens will forever make me roll my eyes and I am sure, once you get to that point in the story you will understand why. I will never understand daytime television and their stars. I will take a book any day.

My favorite character in this book is actually someone who was featured in many of The Tattler's stories, Squatch. As his name suggests he is a Sasquatch. I don't know if I like him because he is someone who cares deeply for his family and stands up for his morals or if I simply like him because my husband's nickname is high-school was Sasquatch and was his contact in my phone from the time we were 16 until 18.

All in all this is an interesting read and one that conspiracy theorists and normal folk alike can enjoy. This book is available on Amazon on Kindle Unlimited or you can purchase it for $0.99 by clicking here. If you decide you would like the audiobook it is $17.46.

Book Review: A Gift of Ghosts by Sarah Wynde (Tassamara Book 1)

A Gift of Ghosts (Tassamara Book 1) by [Sarah Wynde]    Akira has a quirk. She has see and talk to ghosts, but not like in tv. She can't help them move on or anything. In fact, in her opinion, they are just left-over energy that eventually goes away. That is until she is offered a job at a place called General Directions in Florida. Once the contract has been signed and she has agreed to 2 years she learns that her actual task is not as the scientist that she is, but as a medium to consult with the teenage ghost in the car she is driving. The only problem is that speaking with the family gets messy, especially when some ghosts can be very dangerous. Is this something she is willing to brave?

It is hard not to enjoy a good ghost story. I love the ghost whisperer as much as the next person, even if it is incredibly sad. That being said, this book isn't sad at all. It is cute and it is easy to "see" the characters as they go about their day to day lives. It does have a some-what typical play-boy has the chance of something more romance to it, but that is common enough that it is almost expected. Zane is a wonderful character and is easy to like.

Also, I have to say that the way science is used to describe a certain event that I will not disclose is so different from normal. It may be the nerd in me, but I enjoyed that scene more than I have many similar scenes in other books recently. So, thank you for that.

All in all I hope that you get to meet Zane, Akira, Max, Nat, Rose, Dillan, Henry, and Lucas. Well, maybe not Lucas as much, but he doesn't seem like that bad of a guy. After-all it must be tough to have the "quirk" that he has. In fact, if I go based on the title of Book 2 he will be the main male love interest. I feel like this series could be an interesting one if each book is about someone new with a new quirk that they have brought to this small Florida town.

Book Review: Behind Blue Eyes: Fallen Angels by Anna Mocikat (Behind Blue Eyes Book 2)

It has been a year since Nephilim's memory was wiped. One year since her life should have ended, but was instead spared by the High-Archangel, Metatron. Since she no longer remembers she has become the perfect killing machine once more. But, when someone begins to kill the angels could the answer to who is behind it be wrapped in her past?  What will happen to her if she begins to remember?

I received this book as an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy) from the author in exchange for an honest review. I will start by saying I have adored Anna since the first book of hers that I got over a year ago. I have high expectations from her books and they always bring me joy to read and this one is no exception. I started the book as soon as it was sent to me and had to force myself to put it down. After-all, it took me a year to get this one and who knows when I will get the next one. None the less, I did finish it rather quickly and I am already pining for the next one. I have so many questions.

Nephilim is, as always, an amazing cyborg. I can say that this book did not take the turns that I was expecting. I will not give anything away, but I expected the characters from the previous book to have more of a role. Don't get me wrong; Jake, Finwick, Adriel, Nephilim, and Metatron are still in this book along with some new characters. I just expected them to interact with each other more like they did in the first book. I am excited to see how everything goes together in the next book as there are so many avenues this could take.

With my review of book one I stated that Adriel was my favorite character. I still love Adriel, but I didn't get as much of him in this book. He felt more like a background character than a lovable partner in crime. I hope that in the next book what he did for Neph in book one is brought back into light. I feel that would bring back more of their comradery, even if he is technically below her in the power structure of this book instead of being an equal partner in book one. I will say that I love that Anna made a point for Neph and Adriel to still go to the bar and spend time together outside of work, even though things have changed.

I truly hope that you will give this wonderful steampunk cyborg book a chance, but please please please check out book one while you are at it! It will make everything make that much more sense.

Book Review: Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Kingdom of the Wicked by [Kerri Maniscalco]    Two twin witches in a small town in Sicily have powerful protection amulets, but if they are ever brought together they are told to have the power to release the devil himself from Hell. When they were eight, for just a moment, they did just that. Everything seems fine until shortly after their 18th birthday when one of the twins die. The other quickly finds herself travelling a path that she never before would have considered. She will stop at nothing, even working with a Prince of Hell, in order to find who murdered her sister and exact her revenge.

If you have the chance I would definitely suggest this one. The Princes of Hell are the 7 deadly sins, but at least in this book we don't get to meet them all. We meet Wrath, Pride, Lust, Envy, and Greed. One of them is killing witches who are about to enter into a bargain with the devil to give him back his horns. My favorite character has to be Wrath, but the end of the book in regards to him has me confused. As always, I will not give anything away, but I will likely eventually read book two just so I know what happened there.

There are some strong wiccan ties in this book and the murderer is not who I expected it to be. Well, not completely. Without giving it away I didn't expect that individual. I hope that if you give this book a chance you enjoy it as much as I have. Honestly, there is nothing bad that I have to say about it. It is a very interesting YA mystery.

Book Review: Princess of Ice by Nadia Scrieva (Sacred Breath Book 1)

Princess of Ice (Sacred Breath Book 1) by [Nadia Scrieva]    After being trapped in a gilded cage for centuries by her father the mermaid, Princess Aazuria, has taken matters into her own hands. This means that she has killed her father and along with the help of her sisters and the Ramarus twins they have went to land to make money so they can upgrade their weaponry. An attack on the kingdom is eminent with everything her father did. Dancing in the strip club seems to be a great plan to achieve this until the sea captain Trevain invites she and her sisters to live with him.

The pull she fells towards Trevain is undeniable and he feels the same, but they are worlds apart. There seems to way to breach that expanse. Especially when he laughs every time she tries to tell him that she is a mermaid.

I wanted to like this book. I really really did. It was a mermaid book and there was a feisty redhead in it, even if she isn't the main character. But the main male character in the book just leaves so much to be desired. He is a man in his 50s who is going after a girl who looks to be 18. Yes, I know that she is over 600, but still. Also, I didn't start to really dislike his character until what he almost did towards the end of the book. I will not say what it was as I don't like spoilers, but I almost stopped reading at that point. That being said, if you can ignore that point in the character as well as are fine with the age issues then you may very well enjoy this book.

Aazuria's sisters are polar opposites and the book would be missing something without them. Coral is headstrong and speaks her mind while Elandria is quiet and chooses what she has to impart with care. The Ramarus twins are similar in that way. One is a fearsome warrior and the other is a master off medicine. Together the 5 of them posses everything needed to save a country from the wrongs their now-dead king once inflicted on the underwater world.
