Niki's sire Thomas murdered her family and left her for dead. Only she changed into a vampire like him and has spent the last 200 years hunting him down. Now, she has found him in a small town. The only problem is this town is on the cusp of war between the local vampire clan and shifter pack with shifters being killed by vampires mysteriously. Holding it all together is a Keeper who didn't want the job in the first place. Can Niki fight her growing feelings for the Keeper while avenging her family or has she finally found a reason to leave the past behind her?
This book was different. I don't know how else to describe it. We have a Keeper who is also a shaman who tried to leave his familial obligations and who seems to have a thing against both shifters and vampires. We have a vampire who hates that she is a vampire and who is being haunted by the ghosts of her family that were murdered by her sire. Also, apparently if a vampire feeds from a human and that human dies they become a vampire. No blood exchange required? Like I said, different. But, what I don't get is not everyone who dies as a result becomes a vampire, such as Niki's family. It is all odd and confusing.
Other than those points the story wasn't bad. I like the vampire king. He seems like a nice guy. I don't have a whole lot of other positives to say on the book. If you would like to give this book a chance it is available on Amazon for free by clicking here.
