Book Review: Alphas and Airships by Melanie Karsak (Red Cape Society Book 2)

After the retirement of her partner from the force Clemeny is on her own for the most part. Lionhart has taken over the role as alpha and the streets of London are largely quiet. However, mischief brews in the skies above as pirates threaten, capture, and control. The new captain of the Red Capes has decided to join her on this and while Clemeny has a strange attraction to him she is sure that it is as one sided since her new scar does nothing for her looks.

I got this book as part of a set in an impulse purchase and loved it. I will start by saying this is book 2 in a series and while it can technically be read as a stand-alone I suggest reading book one first. Without reading it you won't know the intimate details of Lionhart and his game companion, Clemeny and her grandmother, or her scar. It gives brief descriptions of these things as an overview, but first hand knowledge is always better. Plus book one is great.

We are still in a steampunk Victorian London in this book as we were in the previous. So the setting is, of course, still amazing. We still have Clemeny as our main character and while she has grown a bit as a character and her biases have changed a bit. Always a good thing. It seems that the series, while still focusing on the paranormal enforcement has begun bridging into a romance category as well. I am not complaining on that since I love a good smut book as much as the next girl.

While the threat in this book is again werewolves this time they are Viking werewolves. We also are introduced to some other paranormals and Clemeny's heritage is brought under closer scrutiny.
