Book Review: A Touch of Midnight by Lara Adrian

A Touch of Midnight: A Midnight Breed Novella (The Midnight Breed Series) by [Lara Adrian]     Savannah is able to see the past of an object simply by touching it, but she is intent not to let on to her gift now that she is in Boston at college so that she is not considered a freak. That is until she sees a beautiful sword in her Art History department telling her not only of a warrior, but also of the brutal death of two small boys at the hands of vampires. She thought she was crazy until she seen that her friend was killed by one of these creatures to retrieve the sword. The only problem now is who could she trust and what could she do?

Gideon is a member of the Breed, which are otherworldly beings similar to vampires from lore. There are Rogues, who have given in to the bloodlust, and those who have not. Gideon is part of the Order, which is a section of the Breed that hunts down the Rogues, killing them before they can decimate the humans. That has been his sole purpose since his two younger brothers were murdered over 300 years before and now the sword that ended their lives is on the news being talked about by a young coed.

Will Savanah be able to trust the tall, blonde that has just waltzed into her life after the death of her roommate or will his nature be too much for her to handle?

I have never thought of vampires as aliens, but I suppose it is as good of an explanation as any. The story itself is cute and fast paced, but I feel he gets forgiven just a bit too easily or the female being from the backwoods of Louisiana. But, maybe I have just read too much Sookie Stackhouse. All in all it is a fun little romance read.
