Shaylee has been told fantastical stories about faeries her entire life by her father until he is murdered then she files them away to be treasured but never taken out and examined. This is an interesting portrayal of the fae. Having them wingless and living in a society very similar to ours. I love the story but there are some points in the book where the author talks directly to the reader saying "Don't even think you haven't." and different things like that after a character has done a particular action or had a wayward thought.
