BuyMort: 30,000 Leagues: How I Merged to Become Nu-Earth Affiliated by Damien Hansen and Joseph Phelps (Shopocalypse Saga Book 4)

Arizona belongs to the warlord and he has decided his next step in taking down BuyMort is possession of all of Earth. However, in order to accomplish this goal Tyson must first play nice with The Church, take over the Dearth Conglomerate on Earth, deal with a top ten affiliate known as The Kraken, and possibly another sentient being that has long overstayed their welcome. Along the way alliances are both made and dissolved, including one that meant a lot to Tyson. Can he keep his affiliate from falling apart at the seams while they face all of these threats?

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I have gotten each one of these books from the author as they come out (usually a couple weeks prior to release) and they have never disappointed. This was no exception. While this book was also an ARC with everything I have had going on I haven't had a chance to write the review until now.

In this book we get to see more of my favorite character, Phyllis, and I love that the author has manufactured a way for this badass elder to not only stick around, but take a more active roll moving forward. I am excited to see how Tyson and Silken Sands handle their next threat. It definitely has taken a top priority, although I hated to see that particular death. They were such a sweet and kind individual. Trying to keep it vague so it isn't given away who dies.

While Tyson is known for his act first think later attitude there is significant planning (at least compared to the other books) in this one. I feel that he has definitely grown as a character while still maintaining the things that I liked most about him from the book one. I will say that his Pastafarian attributes are few and far between now versus the beginning. I think I only noticed 2 references to the pasta gods in this book. Poor pasta gods.

While many books begin to lose my interest after the third book as it seems to just be the same information repeated, this is not a series that does that. I fully intend to read every book that comes out in this series and believe I will enjoy every one.

Path of Relics: Aether Shard by DJ LeJeune (The Lore Seeker Odyssey Book 1)

Terry was a low-level gurker, going from short term gig to short term gig. Anything to stay out of communal living and in his apartment, small as it was. With the newest natural disaster causing a dam to break the inhabitants have come to his city and there are no jobs to be had. However, the launch of a new game, Path of Relics, has extended to him an invitation to participate in their battle royal launch with famous VR gamers. While skeptical Terry decides to join only to find that the in game events may have something to do with the outside world disasters. Can he stop whatever has gone so wrong with this AI?

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I actually finished this book back in March (March 23) and swore I had already typed up a review for it. However, the author brought it to my attention that the book was missing from my to be read page and wasn't in my reviews. I searched everywhere for the review and I couldn't find it. So, I either typed it and it got lost to the ether or I just thought I did and didn't. Either is completely possible.

This book was amazing and I loved it from start to finish. In game decisions having affects on the real world is an intriguing thought that you don't see often. A rogue AI, sure. But each VR gaming book has it's own spin and I completely enjoyed this one. I genuinely hope that I get to read more on this book series in the future.

The story was well written and engaging. The main character, Terry, developed relationships with both the NPCs and the other players in ways that weren't always expected. Path of Relics ends in a good place. The main issue of this story was resolved with still plenty to go on to continue the book into the future. Fingers crossed for he and Zara who I was holding out hope for from the beginning.

How levels are gained based on the player was also interesting. I will let you learn about that one yourself. Great book and I look forward to reading more in the future!

Where Did You Go? By P L Jonas

When an unpublished manuscript that was the outline and beginning for the sequel to Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell is found Madison Publishing is intent on having it finished. The CEO of the company, James Madison, wants his best ghostwriter, and long-time crush, to be the one to work on it. Not only was Sammy very talented, but she was also obsessed with Gone with the Wind, so this would be perfect for her. However, when Sammy begins working on the story she finds herself frequently slipping into lucid dreams, even while awake. Can Sammy fight the pull of spending time with her fictional love?

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. While period romances aren't really my thing, this book wasn't technically a period romance. It's hard to explain. Sammy, a modern day woman, receives the manuscript and opportunity of a lifetime with the added bonus of working on the sequel of her favorite book. However, her mental stability soon declines forcing her to lucid dream, even while awake. During these times she would talk with a southern accent, like Miss Scarlet, and forget long segments. While she does attempt to get help, it doesn't come in the way she is expecting.

The sections of the book that would be "period romance" are largely skimmed over. I believe there are only 2 or 3 scenes where we actually see Rhett and Scarlet the rest of the time it is normal regular life. That being said, the book was very enjoyable and you don't see many books end the way that this one did.

I will say that I feel a bit bad for James. He seemed like both a good match and a better friend. He never overstepped his bounds although he was very interested in Sammy. Sammy meanwhile had a lot of mental struggles that she didn't have the healthiest coping mechanisms for. Hiding yourself away will only get you so far.

The bit about her bother, Matthew, was relatable and realistic. When a parent suffers from a type of addiction one often is the one who runs (in this case to the military) while the other stays and tries to handle the fallout of this parents decline. It is only too common, and it is rough on the one who stays and the one who leaves. However, the one that stays always has that larger cross to bear.

This book is an intriguing psychological thriller that will make you wonder what will happen to our ghostwriter who is seeing ghosts.

Book Review: Rise of the Unicorn by D. Elliot Woods

Gus has faced hostage negotiation after negotiation with mostly victories. However, his biggest failure has haunted him with concerns that his private life situation affected his ability to do his job. He is intent that the issues he faces at home has had no impact on his abilities, but when a high profile bank robbery captures the attention of the country Gus is forced into the limelight. They will only negotiate with him and aren't afraid to kill hostages. Can this high profile situation be remedied?

I received a physical copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoy crime books and was excited to read this one. I have to admit that the title gave me some pause. While unicorns may be my 2 year old daughter's favorite animal I outgrew them a long time ago. However, in this situation the idea behind it is more important than the horned horse itself.

The story jumps perspectives so you can see both what is happening inside the bank and outside. At the same time, the author does a great job of keeping the information he wants kept from the reader until he is ready. Everything ties together nicely with no strings left undone at the end. If you are a fan of NCIS and Criminal Minds you will enjoy this. Not only because the author has been a character in these shows, either.

I liked how the book ended. Everything ended in a way that I am happy with, although the secret of the heist was intriguing, but weird.

The Wayward Prince by N. C. Hayes (The Redfern Legacy Book 1)

Shaye Eastly has lived a very non-magical life with her farmer uncle while they eked out a very small life together. Both seemed pleased enough with this life until a stranger appears saying he is here to protect her from soldiers of the mortal realm. Her uncle sends Shaye with Aydan, whom she soon finds is a sorcerer. From here everything she has ever known is quickly called into question. Did the magic wielders want something from her? Were they as evil as they were always said to be when he had just saved her from soldiers? However, it is not just the mortals who are distrustful of sorcerers, it would seem. They crossed over at a bad part of the kingdom for the Wayward Prince and daughter of one who was once the king's best friend and advisor. Will imprisonment and torture of one be enough to quell the blossoming feelings?

I received a physical copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I loved the cover on this book as much as the title. It just gives off vibes of a book you want to impulse pick up and buy. I will start by saying if you are a fan of fantasy young adult romances this is one for you. It is a slow burn romance with characters in their 20s (Yes, Ayden is much older, but that is only because of the whole immortal thing).

The book is amazing from start to finish, although there is still plenty to gather at the end. While the main part of this book was accomplished I truly hope I get to read the next in this series. I truly have no complaints on it. I have to say that I didn't particularly like Stephen at any point, so when the result for his section of the story happened I can't say I was particularly upset.

This book has magic, betrayal, and romance. What more could you ask for? I am sure that there are wonderful and interesting things in store for our characters in the next book and I hope I get to find out!
