Book Review: Psycho Academy by Jasmine Mas (Cruel Shifterverse Book 4)

Aran has been kidnapped by Lothaire and taken to the Elite Academy. She must stab her hand down on a tree blade to determine her placement. But, there must be a mistake. She is not powerful enough to be an assassin sat with literal Kings. Too bad they hate her, even if they don't know she's a she.

Spoilers. Everything, even that above, is a spoiler if you haven't read books 1-3. Yes, books 1-3 are about Sadie, but Aran plays a big part in her story. I think I love Aran's story more than Sadie's. Sadie is more positive, and more winey, while Aran has a major drug addiction. Either way, please go read the other books in the series before this one.

Moving on. I loved this book. This is another Reverse Harem/Why Choose enemies to lovers. There are explicit scenes and a lot of violence. Including skin literally being melted off bones. We meet the kings and John in this book. John is the sunshine to Aran's grumpy and I love him more than words. The kings...well Mitch is a lot. You'll get that reference later.

I loved Aran's torture methods using Sadie. Basically everything about this series is a yes for me. But, please, check your trigger warnings before you read it. There is degradation, murder, torture, attempted murder, an orgy, and much much more. That being said, I have found a new favorite author and can't wait to demolish absolutely every book she has or will write.

Book Review: The Survivor by Rowena Redman (Kingdom of Parvery Book 1)

Myrbeth was born in a town that was soon after completely destroyed. Only her mother escaped with her clasped tightly to her breast. Taking her to a neighboring king's court she was taken in as her mother died from her wounds. She grew up with the king's sons, but she has now come of age that she must marry. With most other kingdom's refusing what will happen to her?

I received a physical copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I loved the cover on this book.

This book is mostly an opener or introduction to the series. It gives you background on the main characters, has romance aspects, and shows how others treat Myrbeth. We learn about the war against the kingdoms and witness the first battle. This book absolutely ends on a cliff-hanger with most of the main story still to be covered.

While this was a starter book it was interesting and I enjoyed the characters. The solution to problems with Myrbeth were obvious long before anything was even admitted in the book. I would absolutely read more in this series and by this author in the future.

No real trigger warnings in this YA read. It is set in a mythical kingdom, but as mythical kingdom, but as far as I know it is not a fantasy. obviously, there is a war, bloodshed, and betrayal so there are those if you consider them triggers.

Book Review: Owned by Willow Winters and Lauren Landish (Highest Bidder Book 3)

Lily is just finishing a semester as a youth councilor while studying psychology when her position is removed due to funding. While researching for a book she is writing she begins frequenting Club X. Joseph is a long time member, interested in he sweet Lily, but unsure if she can handle his dark desires.

I loved the characters, story, and especially the spice. This is a very open door with a lot of spice. There are dark pasts with him being the more damaged one for once. We seen Joseph in the other books, but he was largely regarded as a boogeyman of sorts, so he was mostly ignored. I'm glad he got his own story as well.

I love that this book has a good girl and a bad boy. Yes, it is a frequently done cliché but one I will always enjoy. Lily goes out of her way for her student's, even after she is no longer their councilor because she want's what is best for them. Then there is sweet damaged Joseph that definitely checks all kinds of dark romance book boyfriend boxes. I completely enjoyed their story.

Again, this book could be read as a stand-alone, but starting at book 1 is best as there are background character spoilers. This book evens with everything for Lily and Joseph tied up nicely.

Book Review: Biker Queen by Calia Wilde ( A Destroyers MC Novel)

Betty Jo was done with bikers with a capital D. She has divorced the club pres, but he was still an unfortunate thorn in her side since while they were married her dad signed the shop over to her now-ex. When a war starts Betty Jo meets rival member Fin who is more interested in his tattoo shop and his ailing adopted father to care much about club business, but once you're in you're in.

This book is in the Destroyer's MC world, but takes place long before Walt was ever Pres. You can read this book wherever you are in the series. Personally, I read it after book 4 because that's when I got it. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I love the Destroyers MC books so much and Betty Jo has always been my favorite character. We knew she had a past, but not a lot of detail. I love that she and Fin got their own book, even if we know how they are now in the series.

I absolutely recommend any book in this series. The characters are wonderful and realistic, even when they are murderous and a pain. While I haven't read any other books outside of this series by this author I have zero doubt that anything else you read by her will also be amazing.

I hated Betty Jo's ex. Love his ending. I hate what happened to Fin's "Dad" and getting his story since he was largely a mystery. It is funny after getting their story the little asides in the main series about Betty Jo's past since it is a bit exaggerated.

Book Review: A Sultry Performance by Jessica Lauryn (Rabourn Theater Book 3)

Chris is intent on finding out what actually happened to his wife and the best person for those answers is Victoria. Victoria has been Oakley's main girl since she came of age and would know who truly killed his wife after she left their house.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This book follows the same broad strokes overview as the others. Someone is out to get Rabourn Theater and must be stopped.

The couples change in each instance as does the person who is acting because of the big bad. These books technically could be read as stand-alones, but you would be missing a lot of the story. I suggest starting at book 1.

There are some triggers in this book such as murder, grooming (not the MMC), rape, and abuse. Take that as you will. ***Spoiler**** It it helps, the groomer gets what is deserved. ***Spoiler***

These books do not end on a cliff-hanger. You can read one book and be fine to leave it there, but continuing is well worth it. We are slowly working through all of the main background characters in each book. I would absolutely read more by this author in the future.

Chris and Victoria are probably one of my favorite couples in this series. We have a stripper and basically a detective of sorts. Chris's job is hard to describe. He tracks down information for another character in the books and is his right-hand man. Their romance is messy, technically cheating, and adorable. He helps her find her self-worth while she helps him get closure and answers that he has had for far too long.

Book Review: New Year's Nuisance by Tonya Kappes (Holiday Cozy Mystery Book 4)

Holiday Junction goes out of it's way to celebrate every holiday featuring everything, including a secret Merry-Maker. Newish town resident, Violet, has been given this task and she has roped in a long term resident. But, setting up for the holiday is the last thing on Violet's mind as there has been a murder. Hillary was notorious for causing trouble, standing firm in her belief that everything in their town should stay the same. Now she's found strung up in the little village and Violet wants to help.

I was reading Holiday themed books for a minute there and I happened to own this book when I looked up a New Year's read. This is book 4 in a series and I have serious regrets about not starting with Book 1. I was able to get broad strokes with the story, but little nuances I feel were missed or lost on me by not starting with Book 1.

I did enjoy this cute murder mystery, though so I may backtrack and read them anyways. Even if there are spoilers of some things that happen in the earlier books. The author does a good job of constantly shifting the blame for the murder with plausible reasons each time why that person could have done it. Then there is the romance aspect to the book, but it is very low-key and hallmarky.
